Questions about Penwell
What it writes, what it does on your account, and what it costs.
Writing
Which stocks does it cover?
US-listed companies that file with the SEC. You can add funds and stocks listed elsewhere too, but they get no filing alerts yet.
Will it post buy or sell calls?
Never. It writes your view on what happened, in your words, never a call to buy or sell.
Will it sound like me?
It learns from your posts on X and from your edits to its drafts. With fewer than about 70 posts, it starts from a clear house style. You can change your style any time in Penwell’s settings for your voice.
I don’t post about stocks. Is it for me?
Yes. Penwell is built for investors first, but writing, replies, the Calendar and Insights work for any topic. The stock alerts are simply the part you’d skip.
Your account
Will my X account get in trouble?
Nothing goes out until you approve it, now or at a time you pick. Replies go out one at a time from your own browser, and there is no hands-off mode, no auto-DMs and no mass replying. X can still act on any account, and Penwell can’t promise it won’t.
Do I need Chrome?
For replies, yes, on a computer: they go out from your own browser, one at a time, after you click. Drafts, alerts and scheduling work on any phone or browser.
What can the Chrome extension see?
It works only on x.com and penwell.io. It checks which X account you’re signed into, reads X to find posts worth replying to (sometimes in a background tab), reads your post stats, and reads your Bookmarks and Notifications pages when you open them. It posts a reply only after you approve it. Penwell never sees your X password.
Do you connect to my broker?
No. You type your stocks or upload a screenshot. Penwell keeps each stock’s share of your portfolio if you give one, never an amount, and doesn’t keep the picture.
Billing
Can I try it before paying?
There’s no free trial, and no card until you pick a plan. You see your first post free, written in your voice, before you pick one. In your first 14 days you can cancel for a refund of what you haven’t used. If a friend invites you, your first 30 days are free.
What’s a credit?
What Penwell’s writing takes. A post draft, a reply or a message to Penwell’s chat takes 1 credit. A question that searches the web takes 10. Starter comes with 750 a month, and you’ll see a note in Penwell when you’re running low.
Can I cancel or switch plans?
Yes, both from Settings. Cancel and you keep the plan until the period ends; in your first 14 days you can cancel for a refund of what you haven’t used. A bigger plan on the same monthly or yearly billing starts now and you pay the difference for the days left. A smaller plan, or a move between monthly and yearly, starts at your next renewal.
What happens when I run low?
You’ll see a note in Penwell first. When credits run out, Penwell pauses new drafts and replies until you top up or your credits refill. Alerts, scheduled posts and your own writing keep working.
